Frequently asked Question on Vivariums
Why is timber used and not all glass?
It is important that your vivarium has stability and it is the timber which provides this stability. Wood is also less prone to cracking, chipping and shattering. As this may become a focal point in a room the timber finish will enhance any room. Also, wood is particularly malleable which allows you to make improvements easily to the vivarium ie adding lightly or heating units. Wood is also a good retention of heat which will mean a saving on your energy costs. You can also feel good about buying a Vivarium as the timber used is from FSC sustainable forests.
How do you seal the Vivarium?
If sealed properly your Vivarium will be water resistant. We recommend that you seal your vivarium with silicon once constructed to prevent leakage and to help ensure that your product has a long and healthy life. By sealing with silcon this will make your vivarium completely waterproof. Simply run silicon along all inside joins and areas of exposed chipboard (such as cam holes) and leave overnight to dry. We also suggest that a small amount of silicon is run internally around the edge of the vent holes and tracking to help ensure that no moisture will enter the chipboard. It is critical that all joins and areas of exposed chipboard are cleaned before sealing.
How secure is the glass used in the manufacture of the Vivarium?
All the glass used in the vivariums is toughened glass to BS6206A kite marked standards. This means it has up to 5 times its original strength and if broken the glass breaks into small blunt fragments.
How adequate is the ventilation?
Each vivarium contains the correct number of vents to provide optimum temperature and humidity levels. The circular vents are positioned at both the top and bottom of the back panel allowing a steady flow of air throughout the vivarium. The vents are designed small enough to also prevent live foods from escaping.
Where is the outlet points situated?
The Outlet points are in the edge of the back panel which will ensure not too much wire is exposed. You can use any size of plug or fitting and these can easily pass through prior to securing the lid. You can easily remove or replace the cables simply by loosening the cams and lifting the lid. Cable access points are located at each end, along the top. Either point can be easily closed with silicon if not required.
Are the Vivariums easy to assembly?
Yes. Clear step by step instructions are provided. There has also been an improvement in that the number of parts used has been significantly reduced.
What material is used on the back of the Vivarium?
The manufacturers Viv Exotic believe that 3mm hardboard used by other manufactures is not suitable for a professional vivarium as it will not provide stability or longevity. Viv use the same robust board for all panels. When sealed the construction will last many years longer than cheaper competitors as all the panels are 5 times thicker!
Is there a warranty on the Vivarium?
All vivariums have a standard 12 month warranty. Please Note: It is important that you seal your vivarium to prevent moisture entering into the exposed chipboard. Replacement parts that have been water damaged due to insufficient sealing will not be replaced. If the vivarium is not sealed correctly this will invalidate the warranty.
