Shire buildings are made from a high grade ship-lap tongue and groove construction. This is distinguished from fast grown type timber used on cheaper sheds from other manufactures. Tongue and groove construction means the building is better sealed from the elements.

The timber used is a continental slow grown timber. Slower grown timber means tighter grain, extra strength and longer life.

Treatment:

All Shire buildings are supplied pre-treated on both sides in a honey brown water based industrial product. With colours, on the other hand you can get very surprising results and we recommend our Protek range of modern water-based treatments further down the page.

Walls are constructed using softwood planed tongue and groove shiplap pattern boarding. Actual thickness is 12mm.

Frame: A robust Planed 35x35mm (1 1/2" x 1 1/2") framework (walls and floor) that gives the building strength. Floor is planed tongue and groove matching pattern boarding. Actual thickness of timber is 12mm

Roof is usually constructed using 11mm Oriented Strand Board (OSB) with roof felt supplied.

Windows are properly morticed and tenoned. They are opening, profiled, and weather resistant. ie The window has a unique profiled 'lip' that covers the aperture of the opening in the panel making it weather resistant. Casement stays have 2 levels of opening.

Glazing 3mm horicultural glass. All glazing is retained by profiled beading which is pre-mitred (no awkward corners to be cut).
