Manufactured in the UK, Shire's garden sheds are renowned for their quality and probably manufacture the best value for money wooden shed in the UK today.
This tongue and groove Jersey Apex Garden Shed is great for those that want a lot of space. Perfect to use for storage for items such as garden tools or as a workshop. It now has three criss-cross opening windows for maximum brightness inside and double doors for easy entry.
All timber is from sustainable sources, so that you can feel good about buying a wooden Shire shed.
Shire garden buildings are made from a high grade ship-lap tongue and groove construction. This is distinguished from fast grown type timber used on cheaper sheds from other manufactures. Tongue and groove construction means the building is better sealed from the elements. The timber used is a continental slow grown timber. Slower grown timber means tighter grain, extra strength and longer life.
Framework:
The Jersey has a robust planed 35x35mm (1 1/2" x 1 1/2") framework (walls and floor) that gives the building strength.
Floor:
The floor is manufactured from high quality 12mm planed tongue and groove matching pattern boarding.
Roof:
The roof is constructed from 11mm Oriented Strand Board (OSB) with included roofing felt.
Walls:
The walls are constructed using high quality 12mm thick softwood planed tongue and groove shiplap pattern boarding.
Treatment:
All Shire garden buildings are supplied pre-treated with a base coat to both sides in a honey brown water based industrial product. Alternatively, you can pay a little extra to have your building pressure treated (see picture below). With this treatment a preservative is forced into the timber under high pressure, providing effective long term (no future treatment will ever be needed) protection against rot and fungus. Pressure treatment is almost colourless except for a light green tint caused by the copper content in the preservative.

In the course of time, the treatment greys, but this does not affect the quality. There is no additional timescale should you choose the Pressure Treated option.
Windows:
These are properly mortised and tenoned. There are three opening windows which are profiled, and weather resistant. The window has a unique profiled 'lip' that covers the aperture of the opening in the panel making it weather resistant. Casement stays have 2 levels of opening. The glazing is 3mm horticultural glass which many other manufacturers do not use as standard. All glazing is retained by profiled beading which is pre-mitred (no awkward corners to be cut).
