E is for Elbec

For some reason I was sitting at my desk and couldn’t think of anything within the business that begun with the letter E. Then I remembered that the actual business begins with an E. Silly.

Anyway, let’s have a brief overview of Elbec for today’s alphabet offering:
Elbec is a company that specialises in garden buildings, supplying sheds, cabins, summerhouses, greenhouses and fencing from some of the biggest and best suppliers in the UK. We strive to offer you, the customer, the lowest possible price on these items and as a result we often have big discounts on many of our products.

We have a large selection of sheds ranging from 2x2 to 20x10 and in wood, metal and plastic varieties. So whatever you need a shed for it’s pretty safe to say that we’ll have something for you!

Another of our more popular products are our chicken and rabbit shacks.  Wide ranges are available at affordable prices and are guaranteed to keep your pets happy.

If you’re looking to add a bit of character to your garden, look no further than our arbours and arches section. With many stylish and discounted products available you’re likely to find something to impress you and all your friends. An arbour is also a nice place to sit and enjoy a relaxing drink in the sun (what’s left of it anyway!).

Garden buildings are our only area of business though, we have a sister company in the toy market, which can be found at http://www.elbectoykingdom.co.uk/index.php

Please take the time to explore our website. Who knows, you may just find the newest addition to your garden there!

D is for..... Doors

Doors; hardly one of the most glamorous things in life are they? However with Elbec you can spice up your garden buildings with some of our exceptional entrances.
We have a variety of sheds and cabins that come with either single or double doors, so there’s bound to be something for you.

Take, for example, the Shire Casita Apex Shed; a Tyra Banks of the doorway world if ever I’ve seen one. The Casita really is a shed that mixes elegance with substance and would look great in any garden.
Then we have the Melrose Stable Door Shed. No messing around with this one, it does exactly what it says on the tin and opens just like a standard stable door. Unfortunately despite the door, you’d be a bit cruel to actually keep a horse in there and would probably end up with animal welfare on your case. This spacious shed is designed for garden tools, bicycles and lawnmowers etc.
Another bobby dazzler of a door can be found on the front of the Shire Bourne log cabin. This cabin has not only a main set of double doors, but a single door to another compartment too! Imagine the fun the kids could have tearing in one door and out the other as they play.

No blog on doors would be complete without visiting the often overlooked treasures in our greenhouse section.
Are you a person who likes to get the latest bit of technology? Do you feel the need to be 2 steps ahead of the rest when it comes to new products? Well if so, here’s a cracker for you: the brand new Silverline Greenhouse. Long gone are the days of doors on hinges, as the Silverline introduces the fuss-free sliding door!

So what are you waiting for? Find the door you’ve only dared to dream of at Elbec today!

A Few Facts About Polycarbonate Greenhouses

Here at Elbec, we offer a great range of Polycarbonate Greenhouses at fantastic prices. For a limited time only all of our polycarbonate greenhouses are currently have credit crunch beating discounts on them, so there’s no better time to pick one up!

Most people will think of greenhouses and automatically think of the glass structures we’ve become so familiar with.  But those in the industry know that a new type of greenhouse is rapidly on the rise – the Polycarbonate.

There is, of course, a reason polycarbonate greenhouses are gathering a bigger following by the day, here are some of the main advantages:

•    More Effective Insulation – Polycarbonate is a much better insulator than glass, so aids plant growth
•    Break Resistance – Glass is easily cracked, where as polycarbonate panels have proved to be almost unbreakable in tests
•    Cost Benefit – During the cold winter months, the greater insulating properties of polycarbonate means that the greenhouse is cheaper to heat

This isn’t to say that glass greenhouses aren’t good any more – they are. Both materials have they advantages and disadvantages over one another, and ultimately it depends on what you want from your greenhouse. Be sure though that Elbec will have whatever you require.

Elite Greenhouse Accessories Explained

Elite Greenhouse Accessories Explained

Ventilation
Depending upon your growing intentions, ventilation is a big factor in a successful greenhouse experience. All Elite Greenhouses come with at least 4sq foot roof vent.
Too much ventilation in your greenhouse does not necessarily guarantee high quality results whereas too little in the greenhouse can often be disastrous. A greenhouse needs the ability to breathe not only for the influx of oxygen  for plants to grow but also to draw in cold air to assist in temperature control.

Automatic roof vents and side Louvre vents are an excellent and popular choice with customers. They offer peace of mind when on holiday or out at work. Ventilation is provided automatically via a solar powered wax cylinder which opens and closes the vent when the temperature inside reaches a certain temperature.

Rainwater Collection
Plants thrive from natural rainwater compared to tap.
Elite are famous for the unique integral semi-circled gutters and are the only manufacturer in the market to adopt this for greenhouses. A rainwater kit will allow rainwater to be collected and stored in a water barrel

Staging and Shelving
Elite Staging offers a work area within your greenhouse.
The staging available to you is dependent upon your greenhouse width and length. If you require staging to be located on either the left or right hand side of the door or both, then you just need to measure the distance from the chosen side to the door opening to maximize your work area.

Simply Measure the length along which staging is required. You may wish your staging to go down one side, or both, or in a u shape, or maybe even part way down one side or just at the end. Whichever you choose there will always be some elite staging to choose from.

Heating and Insulation
Small Electric heating provides an ideal environment for seeding and propagation by gently heating the air. The more powerful paraffin heaters are ideal to protect plants from frost.

Netting attached to the inside framework of the greenhouse provides shade for plants by dissipating the suns rays and preventing scorching.

Bubble plastic can enable earlier propagation of plants and extend plant life especially during the winter months when growth is slow and frost protection crucial.

Crestings and Finials
Not only a decorative finish to your greenhouse they can double up as a deterrent to birds and cats gaining access to the greenhouse roof.

Cantilevers
Add additional strength to the greenhouse framework, especially useful in areas where the greenhouse is exposed to high winds.

Fittings
Plastic hooks and eyes can be useful to attach light weight supports for plant development such as tomato strings and Lining hooks for attaching bubble plastic or netting.

Glazing Used in Greenhouses Explained

Glazing Used in Greenhouses explained

Horticultural Glass comes as standard in the Elite Greenhouse Range. 3mm thick overlapping sheets are used. It is a bit thicker than standard glass and generally less optically clear. Manufactured from the rolled glass process; a continuous stream of molten glass is poured between rollers that are water cooled. It is a cheap method of manufacturing glass. The resulting glass has imperfections and is generally less optically clear than standard float glass or flat glass used in window panes.

The main disadvantage that it breaks into large jagged pieces when broken and the glass sheets can over time collect green algae. Where Children are around especially when playing ball games, care should be taken to where the greenhouse should be placed to ensure it is sited in as safe a place as possible.

Upgrading to Toughened Glass on the elite greenhouse range is a safer option. In the event of breakage the glass granulates removing any danger of injury. Only Grade A Toughened Glass is used in Elite Greenhouses to standard EN12150.

Supplied mainly in full length glass sheets it provides a very neat finish to the greenhouse. When combined with bar capping the greenhouse will look very stylish indeed. The Toughened Glass option for the greenhouse removes overlapping glass where algae and moss can be a problem.

Top of the Range as regards to price is Polycarbonate. UVI treated 6mm thick and twin walled with silvered edges, like toughened glass it comes in full sheets and is a great option for a greenhouse where children and pets are concerned. It maintains temperature marginally better than toughened glass and is opaque (cloudy) in appearance.

A disadvantage with Polycarbonate is that there is a danger of the panes blowing out of the greenhouse frame in stormy weather, especially where the greenhouse is exposed to high winds.

Elite Greenhouses though would opt for the toughened glass option as the preferred choice for a greenhouse. Toughened glass offers safety, stylish greenhouse appearance and is more cost effective than polycarbonate.

No matter what you decide on an Elite Greenhouse will offer you a fantastic greenhouse experience.
