Offering a Wide Range of Garden Buildings

Offering a Wide Range of Garden Buildings

We here at Elbec pride ourselves on not only the excellent quality of our garden buildings, but also the wide range of garden buildings we have available. This means that if you are looking for the perfect garden building, you can probably find it somewhere in our selection of garden buildings.

So what garden buildings do we offer? Well firstly there is of course the shed. We offer plenty of choice in wooden, metal and plastic sheds, and with Shire wooden sheds we have the best sheds available. But if a shed isn’t the right garden building for you there are plenty more types of garden buildings on offer.

Summerhouses and Log Cabins both fall into the “like a shed, but prettier” category of garden building, and we have an excellent selection of both. The arbours, arches, gazebos and pergolas section of the website offers garden buildings that will beautify your garden.

We also have a huge selection of greenhouses available; these are obviously one of the more common garden buildings. Gardeners all over the country have been choosing the greenhouse as their garden building of choice, and we here at Elbec have got some fantastic greenhouses on offer.

So there we have just a few of the many different garden buildings on offer at Elbec. Check out the website and you will also find garden buildings for pets, playhouses and garden buildings for storage. So whatever you want from a garden building, you’ll find it at Elbec!

Gown your own Fruit and Veg!

With today’s ‘Grow your own’ craze rapidly emerging it seem more resourceful to produce your own fruit and veg. For the price of next-to nothing you could feed your family for weeks! But people argue that the price of a Greenhouse is a shocking cost to a family’s budget.

Here at Elbec we disagree, we believe that growing your own fruit and veg is a lifetime investment despite the initial cost. Even so we offer some budget busting Lean-to Greenhouses at extremely affordable prices!

Lean-to Greenhouses, what are they?
Well a Lean-to Green house is more compact than an average sized greenhouse and has to be attached to a wall or structure. Although they are compact, they offer the same fundamentals as a normal greenhouse yet are more workable in small outdoor areas and perfect for people who live inner city and don’t have a vast garden area.

One Lean –to Greenhoouse which is perfect for every modern families growing needs is the ‘Silverline Lean-to Greenhouse’.
This is a small and efficient growing area. This lean-to greenhouse can be secured to a house wall or substantial fence. The Siverline is glazed with a crystal clear and virtually unbreakable polycarbonate safety glazing and comes with a sliding access door. The frame is manufactured from mill finish aluminium. Supplied with gutters, manual opening roof vent and a quality galvanised steel base. You can purchase as an optional extra an automatic roof vent. This inclusion of the galvanised steel base in the Silverline Lean-to greenhouse means there is no need to build a brick base.

All for £129! At that price there is no excuse not to get growing.

Here at Elbec we believe that a greenhouse should be a fundamental structure in any garden or allotment, but the history behind greenhouses is far amazing!

The idea of growing plants in environmentally controlled areas has existed since Roman times. The Roman emperor Tiberius ate a cucumber-like vegetable daily. The Roman gardeners used artificial methods (similar to the greenhouse system) of growing to have it available for his table every day of the year.

The first modern greenhouses were built in Italy in the 13th century to house the exotic plants that explorers brought back from the tropics. They were originally called botanical gardens. The concept of greenhouses soon spread to the Netherlands and then England, along with the plants. Some of these early attempts required enormous amounts of work to close up at night or to winterize. There were serious problems with providing adequate and balanced heat in these early greenhouses.

Today the Netherlands has many of the largest greenhouses in the world, some of them so vast that they are able to produce millions of vegetables every year.

Shed Tips

One of the best features of wooden sheds is their natural look and the ability to blend in well within a garden environment. To fully maintain your wooden shed they do need some care. Despite the strength of wood, over time if left untreated and neglected wood can rot, split and warp. So to preserver your shed it is advised to apply often treatments.  Wood sheds need regular maintenance, such as keeping plant matter and debris from piling up beside the walls and on the roof, and occasional rot-proofing with preservatives. Sheds are sometimes also re-stained or varnished at times for aesthetic reasons.  Stains and preservatives can be applied to wood sheds to prevent damage to the wood caused by exposure to rain, damp ground, sunlight, harsh climatic conditions, fungal attack and wood-boring insects.  If a colored preservative oil or stain is used, a wooden shed can either be made to stand out as a feature within a garden, or to blend in with its surroundings. One advantage of using wooden sheds is that it is easier to modify wooden sheds (i.e., than metal sheds) by adding windows, doors, shelving, exterior trim etc, because wood can be easily cut and drilled using commonly-available tools. Some homeowners may prefer wooden sheds because wood is a renewable resource.

Ted the Shed - The Finale

So the time has come. Unfortunately every good thing has to come to an end and this is no different. So sit back, get a cuppa and enjoy the final chapter in Ted the Sheds grand story!

Ted was awoken by a loud roaring noise coming from the sky. He rubbed his eyes and looked upwards to see what the noise was; all the other garden buildings were already awake looking skyward. A plane was shooting across the sky, although this plane was moving much faster than any normal one Ted has seen before. It quickly went out of view and silence descended upon the field once again.

  “Weird…” commented Gertrude the Greenhouse.

“That wasn’t any normal plane” added Chris the Chicken Shack.

Not sharing his friends concerns, “I think it’s quite cool, look how fast it went” Ted said.

No sooner had he finished, another deafening roar pierced the sky and 4 similar planes flew over the friends’ plain. “This isn’t good at all…” murmured Sarah the Shed.

Suddenly a huge blast went off not too far away. The friends gasped as a fireball followed by a plume of smoke bellowed into the air. “It’s happening…” said Gertrude. Now getting slightly worried, “what do you mean it’s happening? What’s happening?” enquired Ted the Shed.

With panic stricken across his logs, Larry the Log Cabin explained; “haven’t you noticed anything wrong with this place since you’ve been here Ted? Look around you. There’s nothing. No houses. No cars. No people. Just the one road that goes in and out of the plain.”

Ted the Shed looked around and saw Larry was right. How had he not noticed something so obvious? Being with new garden buildings it completely slipped his mind to look for his old owners. “What are you saying then Larry?” Ted asked.

“This is military testing area Ted. Those planes flying above us are RAF bombers. They come here and test out their latest weapons on the area!” Larry clarified.

“What?! Why on earth do they need us here? My owners wouldn’t do this to me. No way” a distressed Ted the Shed said.

“I’m so sorry Ted, but they have…” Larry the Log Cabin replied.

Another plane flew across, followed by another. A bomb went off in the distance again. A second bomb exploded to the left of the Ted and he looked away in fear. He remained unscathed but a look of horror swept across his face as he turned back round... Sarah the Shed had been crumpled by the blast!

  “SAAAAAAARAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH” Ted cried out.

The shed of his dreams had been blown apart before his very eyes. Chris the Chicken Shack had also suffered the same fate; all that was left were a few charred, broken panels. Bombs continued to rain down around Ted as he sat there helpless. When will this be over? He thought to himself. Then after a few long minutes, BOOM…. It was….

Ted the Shed Part 4

Yes, after nearly a 2 week absence Ted is back! ‘Woohoo’ I hear you shout! I apologise for keeping you all in such suspense after the cliff-hanger of the latest chapter, but I’m here now to relieve you of the tension.

Ted was lifted out the back of the lorry and forcefully carried away by two large delivery men. ‘I wonder where they’re going to put me?’ Ted the Shed thought, excitedly. The men took him into a large open plain and put him down against a bush. WOW! Ted gaped in awe at his new home; he was surrounded by a variety of sheds and garden buildings! The builders shifted Ted into position and walked away to remove the remaining items from the lorry.

“Hey look guys, a newbie!” a voice called out.

“Hello? My names Ted the Shed, pleasure to meet you all” Ted responded.

“Very nice to meet you Ted, I’m Gertrude the Greenhouse” said a greenhouse a few metres away. “Look to your right you’ll see Glenda the Gazebo and Larry the Log Cabin, directly facing you is Chris the Chickenshack”

“Wow, this really is amazing! I was a bit apprehensive about moving and leaving my old friends behind but you guys seem really cool!” said Ted enthusiastically.

“Oh I almost forgot! There’s just one more garden building I forgot to introduce. Finally to your left you have Sarah the Shed” continued Gertrude.

Ted looked to his left and couldn’t believe what he was seeing. His tools dropped to the floor. Sarah was the most beautiful shed he’d ever seen in his life!

“Heyyy Ted, how are you? It’s good to have you around, you’ll be happy here.” Sarah softly spoke

“Y-y-yeah I’m alright” said Ted, struggling to get his words out.

“Only alright? You were bouncing off the walls a minute ago!”

“I mean yeah great, buzzing. Sorry Sarah it’s all a lot to take in” Keep your composure! Ted thought to himself. It wasn’t too much to take in at all; he just couldn’t stop thinking how gorgeous she was! Was this love? His thoughts were soon interrupted by Larry the Log Cabin shouting across the field “Sarah share Ted around a bit!”

Ted grinned and looked out at his new home. ‘I’m going to like this place’, he thought as he carried on talking with his new friends long into the night.

Is Ted in love? Is everything as rosy as it seems in the new house? Tune in next time to find out!

E is for Elbec

For some reason I was sitting at my desk and couldn’t think of anything within the business that begun with the letter E. Then I remembered that the actual business begins with an E. Silly.

Anyway, let’s have a brief overview of Elbec for today’s alphabet offering:
Elbec is a company that specialises in garden buildings, supplying sheds, cabins, summerhouses, greenhouses and fencing from some of the biggest and best suppliers in the UK. We strive to offer you, the customer, the lowest possible price on these items and as a result we often have big discounts on many of our products.

We have a large selection of sheds ranging from 2x2 to 20x10 and in wood, metal and plastic varieties. So whatever you need a shed for it’s pretty safe to say that we’ll have something for you!

Another of our more popular products are our chicken and rabbit shacks.  Wide ranges are available at affordable prices and are guaranteed to keep your pets happy.

If you’re looking to add a bit of character to your garden, look no further than our arbours and arches section. With many stylish and discounted products available you’re likely to find something to impress you and all your friends. An arbour is also a nice place to sit and enjoy a relaxing drink in the sun (what’s left of it anyway!).

Garden buildings are our only area of business though, we have a sister company in the toy market, which can be found at http://www.elbectoykingdom.co.uk/index.php

Please take the time to explore our website. Who knows, you may just find the newest addition to your garden there!

D is for..... Doors

Doors; hardly one of the most glamorous things in life are they? However with Elbec you can spice up your garden buildings with some of our exceptional entrances.
We have a variety of sheds and cabins that come with either single or double doors, so there’s bound to be something for you.

Take, for example, the Shire Casita Apex Shed; a Tyra Banks of the doorway world if ever I’ve seen one. The Casita really is a shed that mixes elegance with substance and would look great in any garden.
Then we have the Melrose Stable Door Shed. No messing around with this one, it does exactly what it says on the tin and opens just like a standard stable door. Unfortunately despite the door, you’d be a bit cruel to actually keep a horse in there and would probably end up with animal welfare on your case. This spacious shed is designed for garden tools, bicycles and lawnmowers etc.
Another bobby dazzler of a door can be found on the front of the Shire Bourne log cabin. This cabin has not only a main set of double doors, but a single door to another compartment too! Imagine the fun the kids could have tearing in one door and out the other as they play.

No blog on doors would be complete without visiting the often overlooked treasures in our greenhouse section.
Are you a person who likes to get the latest bit of technology? Do you feel the need to be 2 steps ahead of the rest when it comes to new products? Well if so, here’s a cracker for you: the brand new Silverline Greenhouse. Long gone are the days of doors on hinges, as the Silverline introduces the fuss-free sliding door!

So what are you waiting for? Find the door you’ve only dared to dream of at Elbec today!
