Cheap Sheds. Are they worth buying?

I could reel out the clichés You get what you pay for or If it is sounds too good to be true it probably is are obvious cliches, and yet this is pretty much true when buying anything.

We at Elbec strive to balance quality and price. We do sell very competitive garden sheds, I refrain from using the word cheap as this sounds like the product is rubbish which they are not. Our cheap garden sheds are great value.

Our cheapest garden sheds are good quality and I can confidently say they are the best quality sheds around at that price point. They are ideal for storage of lawn mowers, bicycles, the bbq and the garden furniture set

Yes there maybe some websites selling garden sheds at a cheaper price. The garden sheds look great in the photo and look a real bargain. Maybe they are, but would you really want a garden shed that is made from the same boarding as your average garden fence. Do you know how thick the timber is for these uber cheap garden sheds. 5mm! That’s right 5mm.

That is why they are ridiculously cheap. They use ridiculously cheap timber both in terms of thickness and quality.

Cardboard springs to mind here. One miss with the hammer when putting up a shelf and you are straight through the timber cladding. How long will it last?

Well if you treat these paper thin garden sheds well and look after them, they shouldn't rot. The timber is so thin though that when the boards expand in winter due to high moisture content and then shrink in the summer as they dry out, I would hate to imagine how twisted and contorted the boards will become; your garden shed wont look so lovely then.

Yes this happens to all garden sheds but the thickness of the timber boards used helps minimise the effects of movement and put simply garden sheds with 5mm thickness will hardly have any strength at all, no matter how wonderful they look.

There are minimum standards you should be looking for. These are 7mm for an overlap garden shed and 12mm for a shiplap garden shed. 2mm doesn’t sound much but I can assure you it will make a huge difference to how your garden shed will look in years to come.
