Why Others Tell us they Love the Barclay

Admirers of the Barclay are drawn to the elegant, contemporary exterior and the wide-open feel that the double doors and side windows provide. The generous headroom combined with the full-length windows and doors really maximise that bright and open feel on the inside, while providing panoramic views. The rounded effect to the summerhouse provides added charm to its appearance and contributes to those wonderful, open views from the inside of the rest of your garden. But that is not the only reason for this design. It is a design choice that is both attractive and practical, meaning that the Barclay will fit perfectly and look great in almost any corner of any garden. These reasons ensure that the Barclay remains a popular choice for customers looking for a stylish, quality summerhouse at a price that is hard to beat. Our customers often like to add their own personal touch by painting their summerhouses and they look fantastic in any colour. Shire recommends you use Protek Paint, available from elbec in a wide variety of colours. Using Protek, you can make the Barclay look exactly how you want while adding extra protection to the timber.

Features

The robust 34mm x 34mm framework used for the Barclay gives this Summerhouse a sturdy feel that you just don’t get with some other summerhouses. The tongue and groove floor gives a great finished look and provides a solid base for you to furnish your summerhouse without worrying about overloading. The slow grown timber used on Shire Summerhouses gives a tighter grain, ensuring extra strength and a longer life for the Barclay. The handcrafted, quality joinery on the tough, styrene glazed windows and doors really add to the excellent overall package. The shiplap tongue and groove construction will also ensure that the inside of the summerhouse is nicely sealed from the elements. The Barclay comes with a 10 year anti rot guarantee, and this combined with the other features mentioned means you can rest assured you will be purchasing a summerhouse that will last. We’re pleased to offer the option of booking our dedicated professionals who will assemble your summerhouse quickly and correctly. However, you can choose to use the comprehensive instructions included with the Barclay and construct it yourself.

About the Timber

You will be impressed by Shire's use of natural products and their environmental credentials. A high quality timber log cabin starts with high quality timber, so it is important to know exactly what timber is being used for your log cabin. The most commonly used timber for garden buildings is pine (pinus) as this is widely available for a very cheap price, however all of Shire's garden buildings are constructed using high quality spruce (picea) and is sourced from Siberia and Scandinavia under strict FSC guidance. Spruce is more durable than pine and provides a higher quality finish. This timber is slow grown unlike fast grown British and Eastern Europe's timber, being slow grown timber means a tighter grain, less sap and with far less knots. The timber used on Shire's log cabins is therefore a more durable timber that will last much longer than other timbers used on log cabins. Spruce is therefore the timber of choice for companies such as Shire who always look to produce the best garden building.

You must apply a water based top coat of your choice. Shire recommends Protek Royal Exterior wood treatment, available from elbec in a wide variety of different colours. This will protect the timber from weathering, making it last longer. The timber treatment will need to be repeated periodically in line with the manufacturer's instructions.
