Description

Colour

Thorndown’s Wood Paint in Bullrush Green draws inspiration from the West Country's riverbanks and wetlands, its darker green shade a perfect compliment to the wide array of colours found in your garden. Sitting in the Thorndown Somerset Heritage collection, it is designed to capture the magic of the countryside. An ideal size to gauge whether this colour is the best fit for your garden, the 150ml sample pot can also be used for crafting projects such as plant pots, or adding stencilled accents to larger projects.

Features

Thorndown are colour specialists, creating paints that are of the highest quality. With its delicate satin finish, Thorndown paints provide vibrancy in colour whilst still maintaining the beauty of the natural grain. Their paints can be applied to hardwood or softwood, as well as a range of metal and plastic surfaces, and will last from anywhere between three and five years. A unique feature of Thorndown's formula is the ease in which it can be mixed to create personalised colours, and the ability to dilute any paint at a 1:1 ratio to transform it into a wood stain. With Thorndown, you do not need to use any preparatory products, just apply to dry, sanded timber. The paint provides a protective water resistant layer against the elements, helping seal against mould, rot, fungus and weathering. The microporous coating also prevents moisture from being trapped inside, as it is a breathable coat.

By using Thorndown paint, you are also providing UV protection which slows the natural fading of the colour. The paints are water-based, and are environmentally friendly with a low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) rating and low odour, and are safe around animals and children. The paint will be touch dry within two hours in normal weather conditions, the drying can be slowed by adding water.

About Thorndown

Proudly operating out of the West Country, the husband and wife team that forms Thorndown is a specialist paint manufacturer who mixes together a passion for creativity, nature, and design in one paint tin. Striving for simplicity, Thorndown move beyond the need for complicated paint preparation, having made a Wood Paint which will perform on all kinds of timber without additional treatment. Their 30 years of experience is channelled into their family oriented company, and their paint range is of the highest quality. Thorndown hold high eco-credentials, with a focus on recycling and nature friendly formula, and have won multiple industry awards for their quality.

Important Note on Colour

Although the colour we show with each product is as close as possible to how it will look when painted on timber, there will be variations in colour interpretation on different screens (computer screens, tablet devices, mobile phones etc.) and printing processes may slightly alter the colours. Because of this, the colour you see on your screen, or even if you print out our product information page, may vary from how the colour of the treatment appears in reality. Final colour, when painted, may also be affected by the timber that your paint is applied to (pale softwood as opposed to dark hardwood, for example) and could be affected if you are over-coating previous treatments. If you have any doubts, sample pots are available or you can visit elbec’s showsite where we can show you samples of the whole colour range applied to wooden swatches.

Tips for use

  • Thorndown are environmentally focused, with low VOC ratings and low odour. It is safe to use around all animals, and children
  • As with many wood treatments, it is strongly recommended that they are applied in good weather, ideally at a time when no rainfall is forecast for around 48 hours after application. It should also be applied in temperatures higher than 8 degrees Celsius.
  • Thorndown Wood Paint should be touch dry within 2 hours.
  • The paint has a satin effect, allowing the wood grain to show through. The sheen will increase with further coats.
  • Should you wish to use the Wood Paint as a wood stain, simply dilute the Wood Paint at a 1:1 ratio and apply.
  • When calculating coverage, it takes approximately 1l to cover 12m squared, or you can consult the Thorndown coverage chart.
  • You will only need one paint for any application; softwood, hardwood, interior and exterior. The paint is also compatible with metal and plastic, including uPVC window frames.
  • When it comes to preparation, make sure the surface is clean and dry. Sand surfaces for best results, and use a wood preservative or knotting solution if required.
  • Thorndown paint tins are specially designed for ease of painting, with a wider top and more air space above the paint level for easy mixing.
  • One coat of paint will provide a standard coverage, with additional coats providing a more enhanced colour and better protection from the elements.
  • The best application will come from a brush, pad, a small or medium nap 'hairy' roller, or sprayer.
  • Paint tins are fully recyclable, and can be disposed of at local facilities.
  • UV Clear available to provide additional protection, and can also be used to create a more translucent paint.
