Description
How does the foundational timber protect against damp conditions?
The 7 x 8G Shire Tilney pent log cabin rests upon 34mm x 62mm pressure-treated floor bearers to defend against rising dampness from garden soil. By elevating the 12mm tongue-and-groove floor above the earth, this treated sub-structure helps resist moisture ingress at the base, actively protecting the lowest tier of 19mm tongue-and-groove logs. This foundation strategy remains vital for maintaining a drier interior, ensuring the building stays resilient during periods of prolonged rainfall.
Why are these specific logs chosen for the main walls?
Utilising 19mm tongue-and-groove logs, this garden structure forms a sturdy, interlocking barrier that effectively defends against wind and seasonal weather. The uniform profile of these timbers creates a highly stable perimeter that helps resist draughts while maintaining a smart exterior appearance for residential settings. Produced in the UK, the precision-cut timbers slot together seamlessly, working in tandem with the 12mm tongue-and-groove roof to deliver a reliable shell for continuous usage.
What are the functional benefits of the glazing configuration?
Incorporating joinery double doors and 1 x opening side window, this model ensures operators receive ample daylight alongside essential airflow control. Every glazed pane utilises toughened glass, contributing an extra degree of physical resilience against accidental impacts in a busy garden. The wide entryway simplifies the transfer of large materials, while the single ventilating window permits fresh air circulation without compromising valuable wall space for internal shelving.

How Can I Best Utilise the 7 x 8G Shire Tilney Pent Log Cabin?
Configuring a dedicated craft studio or compact home office is an excellent option for this outdoor building. The joinery double doors paired with the opening side window funnel bright daylight onto work surfaces, while the solid 19mm tongue-and-groove logs present a stable backdrop for mounting lightweight tool racks or organisational panels.
Alternatively, this unit functions flawlessly as a secure garden storage hub for bulky outdoor equipment. The sturdy 12mm tongue-and-groove floor readily supports the weight of heavy lawnmowers or patio furniture, and the 34mm x 62mm pressure-treated floor bearers work consistently to help resist moisture transfer from wet ground, keeping stored possessions in optimal condition.

Does A Log Cabin Require Planning Permission?
The garden room designs have been created in accordance with planning permission guidelines. However, we cannot guarantee that you will not need planning permission for a log cabin. We advise checking with your local authorities before constructing your summerhouse.
Log Cabin Base
We recommend that log cabins be sited on pre-laid, level, solid, and dry ground. A foundation of hardcore, compacted, and concrete to give a stable and even footing for your cabin to sit on. You can request 'Guidelines for Preparing a Concrete Base' through our 'Contact Us' Section. Alternatively, create a strong, level foundation for your garden building with the Gorilla Ground Screws DIY Foundation Kit. This convenient system provides an effective alternative to traditional concrete bases. The complete kit is delivered directly to your door and is designed for DIY installation using standard household tools.
Please note that the log cabin assembly option does not include assembly of the DIY base.
Log Cabin Aftercare
The Shire Tilney Log Cabin is supplied untreated. To ensure you enjoy your garden cabin for many seasons, you must apply a preservative and waterproofing topcoat immediately after installation.
