The 8 x 6 Shire Durham Shed is one of our best selling sheds, so we are pleased to now offer a high quality pressure treated version of the Durham. An excellent shed package with an apex roof and plenty of usable space inside, this makes it ideal for a wide range of your storage needs or even for use as a workshop. Plus, with attractive tongue and groove walls, you have a classic timber garden building appearance to your shed that is certain to look good in any garden setting. We’re pleased to offer the option of booking our dedicated professionals who will assemble your shed quickly and correctly. However, you can choose to use the comprehensive instructions included with the shed and construct it yourself.

Simply put, pressure treated sheds are the best of the best when it comes to quality, wooden garden buildings, and the Durham is another fantastic example of an excellent, pressure treated shed. Pressure treatment involves a preservative being forced into the timber under high pressure. This penetrates the timber and provides unbeatable, long-term protection against rot, fungus and weather damage. This makes your shed require minimal maintenance in the long run and ensures that it will last. The Durham features 12mm thick shiplap tongue and groove walls. This provides not only an attractive panel, but also a fantastic seal against the elements, protecting the contents of your shed. 9mm thick oriented strand board (OSB) is used for the roof and floor, a strong and durable material that will give you a nicely weatherproof roof and a floor with an impressive load capacity. The building really gets its strength from its robust 34mm x 34mm framing, ensuring a sturdy building that will stand up to the test of time.

The Shire Durham Shed also features an opening window. This will allow in natural light as well as cool air when opened, a useful feature during warmer times of year. This also makes the interior a pleasant environment and gives you the flexibility to use it as a workshop. The window is properly mortised and tenoned and has a unique, profiled lip that covers the opening in the panel, making the shed even more weather resistant. It is glazed in horticultural glass for long lasting clarity, a feature you will not find on many sheds of this price produced by other manufacturers. The single door is ledged for extra strength and features a hasp and staple. You can padlock this for extra security and peace of mind when storing items in your shed (padlock not included.) This shed package is protected by a 10 year anti-rot guarantee, so you can rest assured you will be buying a shed that will last for years to come.

About the Timber

You will be impressed by Shire's use of natural products and their environmental credentials. A high quality timber product starts with high quality timber, so it is important to know exactly what timber is being used for your storage solution. The most commonly used timber for garden buildings is pine (pinus) as this is widely available for a very cheap price, however all of Shire's garden buildings are constructed using high quality spruce (picea) and is sourced from Siberia and Scandinavia under strict FSC guidance. Spruce is more durable than pine and provides a higher quality finish. This timber is slow grown unlike fast grown British and Eastern Europe's timber, being slow grown timber means a tighter grain, less sap and with far fewer knots. The timber used on Shire's range is therefore a more durable timber that will last much longer than other timbers. Spruce is therefore the timber of choice for companies such as Shire who always look to produce the best garden building.

About Shire

Established in 1945, Shire are the country's leading, and one of the oldest established, manufacturers of garden buildings. Shire benefit from being adjacent to the Port of Wisbech, through which Shire discharge timber into their warehouses. Shire is the proud manufacturer of the largest timber garden building range produced in the UK. At peak times they produce thousands of buildings a week. Their range includes Garden Sheds, Log Cabins, Eco Homes, Home Offices, Sheds, Workshops, Summerhouses, Playhouses, Arbours, Storage units and Pet houses. Their production facilities cover some 23 acres and include huge undercover stock holding facilities for many of their ranges, an advanced high speed timber planing mill, modern well equipped joinery production facility and semi-automated production lines. All Shire garden buildings are manufactured in the UK using the finest spruce timber, imported directly and machined through the most up to date machines to ensure the best quality and best value for money products in the UK.

Additional Details about your Order

This shed is pressure treated. Pressure treatment is almost colourless, except for a light green tint caused by the copper content in the preservative. In the course of time, the treatment greys, but this does not affect the quality. This means you do not immediately need to add additional treatment to the shed yourself. However, many customers like to personalise their sheds by adding an exterior wood treatment which adds additional protection to the timber and a splash of colour. Shire recommends Protek Royal Exterior wood finish, available from elbec in many different colours. This is also a great way to refresh the look of your shed over time.
